Interview:

ESA: Good Evening Papa George and welcome to Finland
PAPA GEORGE: Thank you, kittos.
ESA: Kittos. You've already been here for a while this time. I think you've done about four gigs so far. Can you tell us something about yourself as a musician, for how long have you been doing this business?
PAPA GEORGE: Well, I'll try to keep it as brief as possible. I started playing guitar about 1963 because of people like the Beatles and the Stones, like a lot of other people (musicians) and I took it up as a living from about 1974 and I got into blues and Hendrix and that sort of stuff, thank God.
ESA: It seems to me that you are specialised in open tunings and finger-picking and slide. You seem to be a real killer player with slide.
PAPA GEORGE: Thank you very much. I have dabbled in the past with it, but I've put my mind into a little bit more over the last couple or so years, especially with the Steel Guitar. I find it quite exciting and a change from electric.
ESA: So, can you introduce your band?
PAPA GEORGE: Hallo Guys. On the drums we have Mika Larkesson and on bass Little Tom, whose real name is Tom Ahonen.
ESA: Tonight we have a premier for one new guitar you have!
PAPA GEORGE: Absolutely, this is total gospel-honour, truth here. Matti Netherleiner, a great guitar maker, just finished this afternoon, the first Flying Finn Reso, Resonator Guitar, which is half electric/half acoustic. He finished it at about three o'clock this afternoon. The first song I did "The Station" was played on that Reso, the Flying Finn. A fantastic guitar! Well done, Matti. Thank you mate and your family.
ESA: All right Papa George, before we go on I would like to mention your coming gigs tomorrow. ……………
ESA: Okay Papa George, What is your next song?
PAPA GEORGE: The next tune is called "Nite With You", when I first wrote this song I did it as an electric version with the band. Having done an album, "Being Free…ain't no crime", it's a solo acoustic album, so this song Nite With You, I've changed into an acoustic, I think it suits the resonator. Thank you very much, Esa, for inviting me to your show.
ESA: It's a pleasure.
